Carlos Suarez Zalpico is a Research Associate at the Heriot-Watt University, focusing on model-based control approaches for manipulation in underwater robots. He earned his PhD in Robotics from the Heriot-Watt Univeristy and University of Edinburgh in 2023. Currently, Carlos is part of the EPSRC UNderwater IntervenTion for offshore renewable Energies (UNITE) leading the developing of whole-body manipulation controllers for marine robots. This is one of the main core aspects of the UNITE project. His research leverages model predictive control and sampling based methods.
