Bio

Ed Hefferman received an MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Diploma in Industrial Studies from Loughborough University in 2025. He is currently pursuing a PhD within the SPADS CDT, under the supervision of Dr. Carlos Mastalli. His doctoral research project is titled “Differentiable physics engine for multi-robot loco-manipulation.”

Previously, his experience includes an industrial placement at MBDA as a System Design Engineer. He has also worked at Loughborough University as a Research Intern on an EPSRC summer internship under the supervision of Dr. James Fleming, where his research was linked to the project “Learning of safety critical model predictive controllers for autonomous systems,” and as a Teaching Award Summer Intern, designing digital twins to help students learn control engineering.
