Bio

Horea Caramizaru is a PhD student in the SPAD doctoral program co-supervised with Prof. Michael Mistry (University of Edinburgh).

His background is on the intersection of applied mathematics, computer science, and theoretical physics with an MSc. in Computer Graphics, Multimedia, and Virtual reality from Politehnica University of Bucharest, an MSc. in Scientific Computing from Heidelberg University, and a BSc. in Informatics from the University of Bucharest. Previously, Horea has worked, among others, in projects that involve computer graphics, physical-based animation, robotics as well as multi-body dynamics, molecular dynamics, and compiler design. Currently, his interests lie at the crossroads of mathematical optimization, optimal control, ML, multi-body dynamics, theoretical mechanics, and SLAM with applications in loco-manipulation for legged robots.

His doctoral project focuses on enhacing loco-manipulation tasks for surveillance in unstructured, hostile environment.
